Gingerbread Baked Doughnuts

November is upon us, at long last. It has thus far been rather difficult , as far as my food styling & photography endeavors are concerned. Though the month has barely just begun, a number of my recipe shoots have already failed – and miserably so. Despite this, my passion for photography has not wavered in the slightest. I am so eager to improve, to develop extraordinary skills. Practice makes perfect, after all.

Rather than dwell upon negative matters, however, let us discuss how utterly wonderful November is. It is my absolute favorite… I  believe I have mentioned this {often!} in the past. My birthday. Thanksgiving break. Two November events that I absolutely adore. Following November is December – Christmas caroling, tree purchasing, cookie baking… all shall shortly commence. I am quite excited.

Ah, until then … the monotony of high school routine. Perhaps an occasional walk along the beach – camera in tow, of course. And doughnuts, of the baked variety. My personal preference. Far simpler than those of the fried sort. Far more satisfying. I am aware that most disagree with this opinion of mine, but tastebuds do differ. As long as I am in possession of a doughnut pan, traditional doughnuts will certainly not be appearing here. Gingerbread baked goods, on the other hand? Many are to come.

If offered the choice between an autumnal flavor (pumpkin, perhaps) and a ‘Christmas’ inspired treat (gingerbread, peppermint, etc.), the winter indulgence would, nine times out of ten, be selected by myself. I love, love, love candy canes. Gingerbread men. Chewy little gumdrops. These particular doughnuts were inspired by my fondness for the rapidly approaching holiday season.

You should prepare a batch, as soon as you possibly can. I assure you – it is a delicious decision you will not regret.

I now leave you with the recipe. A final tip: use homemade brown sugar. And…

Enjoy!

  1. We’re on the same fallish page today! These look wonderful, I love that you’ve crafted the recipe to make just 6 doughnuts — and your photos are really lovely!

  3. Abby, I am really drawn to your photography. …and because baking is my 1st love since I was your age (long ago), I have been following your lovely boards. This post is a winner; the tablecloth, the silver, and of course, the recipe. I’ll be having it soon!
    Thank you.

  4. I love gingerbread and will pick it any day over pumpkin flavors. I love these baked donuts.
