lovely little quotes: inspiration for the new year

Happy New Year!

2015 has been utterly lovely, thus far. Of course, we’re merely three days in, but it can only get better from here, yes? Yes!

This Saturday morn I am sharing more than three sweet, inspirational quotes… my 2015 goals are listed here, as well. (Yay me!)

Shall we begin? Enjoy the words of wisdom. (Oprah’s, Emerson’s, and Eleanor’s. I have no idea what I’m doing, hahah.)

Abby’s Goals for 2015

1) Learn a Bit of French – My wonderful parents purchased me Rosetta Stone French for Christmas!

Allow me to explain…

This past autumn, while accompanying my father on an international business trip, I fell in love with Paris, France. The architecture, the atmosphere, the language. I casually mentioned to both my mother and father that I was keen on learning French several times before Christmas and, well, I suppose they were listening, weren’t they?

2) Learn to Crochet – I simply adore creative projects and for quite some time now have been wanting to crochet a cozy blanket of some sort for myself. Prior to 2015, I was far too busy with schoolwork to invest a substantial amount of time in such an involved activity. I tested out of high school last fall, however, and though I intend to pursue my education further, I now have a lot of free time on my hands. This throw blanket is most-certainly going to happen. Me thinks it shall be pretty-pretty pink!

3) Improve My Photography – So, this is my dream: Become a pre-school teacher or nanny in my late teens/early twenties. Conduct a small photography business on the side. Eventually, take up professional photography full time. In other words, I hope (so very much!) to someday be a portrait/wedding/lifestyle photographer. And practice makes perfect? I have absolutely no idea where my life is going to take me… at seventeen I am already so far from where my younger self expected me to be. But I do know this: I am passionate about taking pictures (ooh, and writing. and travel). So, in 2015 I am going to work very, very hard to improve both my artistic and technical skills.

4) Read… A Lot – I really, really enjoy reading. Oh-so-much. Because books are pure magic.

Last week I compiled a rather lengthy list of books to read over the course of 2015. It includes fiction novels, memoirs, biographies, mysteries… basically every genre imaginable. And I’m going to post it and track my progress here, on Lace & Lilacs. More information coming soon.

To any readers that made it this far – you’re amazing! Though I post my ramblings and thoughts in this space for the world to see, the vast majority of it is truthfully for myself. I do, however, enjoy sharing bits and pieces of my chaotic little life with you all, and cannot wait to see what this year has in store for both you and me.

xoxo,

Abby

  1. Perfect words to kick off the year! It’s already a good one, isn’t it? 🙂 Love your goals for the year; if you have an iPad, I recommend the Duolingo app as well. It makes leaning a language fun (and is free!).

    • Thanks so much, Laura! 2015 has been great so far.
I’ll definitely give that app a try! I’ve never had a knack for languages, so Duolingo might be helpful. 🙂

  2. Duolingo is also online at duolingo.com if you do not have an iPad… I am using it in school to learn Spanish and highly recommend it.

    • Thanks, Elizabeth! That’s actually really great to know… I don’t have an iPad of my own and was planning on stealing my brother’s 🙂 Online is so much more convenient for me.. I can’t wait to get started!!
