Year Three

today is lace & lilacs’ third birthday!

Hey-hey! It’s quite a special day around these parts – a happy-happy birthday, to be precise! My little Lace & Lilacs is officially three years old as of May 19, 2015 – wow.

Before I begin rambling on (emotionally & nonsensically, I might add), let’s address the above photographs, shall we? I shot all of them (the sole exception being the one of me – my father took it at The Louvre last fall) between May 2014 and May 2015… which is to say, during L&L’s third year.

It has been an utterly incredible twelve months.

Prior to May 2014, I was struggling with a personal health crisis that made blogging difficult – and a teeny bit impossible, at times. Prior to May 2013, I was enrolled full time in a rigorous academic environment (aka private high school), and was often unable to blog as a result of piles upon piles of challenging schoolwork. (I had straight A’s and a perfect GPA, by the way. It doesn’t exactly feel like bragging to share this fact now; I’ve changed so much since then.)

I suppose the point I’m attempting to make here is that this past year I was able to really & truly blog, free from the distractions of schoolwork (I graduated early), health (I’ve been doing fabulously, thank you very much!), etc.,etc. This past year my photography and writing both improved tremendously, and I discovered a number of brilliant friends & fellow bloggers on the world wide web. This past year Lace & Lilacs was born. And I totally heart everything about it.

Of course, I am nowhere near the place I someday hope – or intend – to be. My photography could use serious improvement (hey, college! more on this subject to come…), my writing also could be significantly better & more entertaining, &, well, I’m still entirely clueless about nearly everything. Everything, period.

*cue modified Clueless monologue*

“Everything I think and everything I do is wrong. I was wrong about my camera, I was wrong about that cake recipe, and now I can’t seem to write a single comprehensible sentence. It all boiled down to one inevitable conclusion, I was just totally clueless… Oh, and this whole travel and photography thing was wiggin’ me more than anything. I mean, what was my problem? Travel is amazing, I don’t begrudge it lovely pictures. I really… (looks into store window) Oooh! I wonder if they have that in my size?! (comes out of the store with bags in tow) Why is it so difficult to take decent travel photos, anyway?”

(this is about as far as I could get through the monologue without running out of ideas. ah, well. at least that was fun. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

Where was I…

Oh, yes. I am crazy excited for year four of Lace & Lilacs. It’s going to be absolutely wonderful, in all respects. Not to mention legendary. As in… It’s going to be legen– wait for it– and I hope you’re not lactose intolerant, because the second half of the word is– dary! Legendary! (Name that TV show.)

Bye-bye! I’ll be back soon. ♥
