Colmar, France III

Bonjour, Lovelies!

At long last, it has arrived – the itty bitty guide to Colmar, France I’ve been promising for quite some time now. I am no expert on the town, of course, but given that it’s fairly small I believe I experienced it wholly, and am now going to ramble on about my very-favorite spots in this adorable place.

A brief note, however: As much I love this pretty-pretty destination, I highly doubt that it’s especially worth visiting in the spring or summertime. Winter (the holidays, in particular) is Colmar’s peak season; it is when the entirety of the city abounds with Christmas markets, Nöel shops, and sweet treats.

Now! A bit of Colmar history and background for you (in bullet points for simplicity’s sake!):

  • Founded in the 9th Century and is mentioned in texts dating as far back as 823.
  • Has been apart of both France and Germany over the years.
  • Is about 60 kilometers south of Strasbourg, France.
  • Was nearly all spared by the French Revolution.
  • Is located on the Alsatian Wine Route.

Also, it is freaking gorgeous. But you knew that already. 😉

Hearts ♥:

Colmar’s ‘Old Town’

The vibrant architecture appears to have popped straight out of a postcard.

‘Little Venice’ (La Petite Venise de Colmar)

I may not have had the opportunity to visit Venice, Italy in 2015 (sadness), but Colmar’s ‘Little Venice’ was more than satisfying. Quite cute, and I believe boat tours are available, though I didn’t partake in one.

Eglise St-Martin

This church is utterly stunning. France (and Paris, for that matter) is chock-full of religious buildings and structures… which is to say that after a while, they fail to take your breath away. This eglise, however, is an absolute work of art.

Colmar hosts a variety of museums, as well, and there are heaps of boutiques and sights to keep one entertained. The Christmas markets were just fabulous, I should make a point of saying. I believe there were between four and six, in total, and each had a unique flavor and feel to it. Vendors sold aromatic vin-chaud, biscuits in all shapes and sizes, lovely holiday decor and accessories, and more. It couldn’t have been more joyful or picturesque.

Ah, I suppose that is all for today. I still have a substantial amount of Colmar film photographs to share with you, however, so don’t think we’ve finished with this Alsace beauty just yet.

Enjoy a few more snapshots before departing… ♥
