Bisous !

one day in Florence

I arrived in Florence the 16th of August, just after 11am, about two hours following my departure from Venice’s Santa Lucia train station. The journey passed rather quickly; I took advantage of the time to retouch the photos I’d shot of Murano, Burano, and Torcello the day before.

Goodness, was it scorching in Florence upon my arrival! Despite the heat, I decided to walk to the hotel, which was located rather close to the Santa Maria Novella station… it was a practical choice, given that I had only a backpack with me, after all. I headed directly to the cute ‘lil inn I’d reserved a room at in June, Hotel Fedora, aware that it would perhaps be a bit too early to check in. Which it was. The staff was positively warm and welcoming, and the kind man working the front desk offered to take my bag off my hands while I wandered about the city during the afternoon, as well as a glass of water, which was much appreciated given the blistering temperature.

I departed from the hotel, camera in hand, and strolled for a bit whilst shooting away before briefly stopping in a café for an hour before joining up with the tour I’d reserved the previous month. As one day isn’t a particularly practical amount of time to discover a city by oneself, I’d chosen to book a tour with Walks of Italy, and it did not at all disappoint. The guide was too kind, and his passion for the city was oh-so inspiring.

After meeting up at Piazza San Marco, our little group of perhaps seven or eight walked a stone’s throw to the Galleria dell’Accademia (I saw David! Yay! God, is that sculpture incredible or is it INCREDIBLE?). Afterward we visited the Duomo, which was equally impressive, and three hours later, around 5 or 5h30, we wrapped up at the Ponte Vecchio.

I continued to shoot heaps and heaps of photographs, as the light was truly sublime, whilst walking back to the hotel. When I arrived a lovely little room had been prepared for me, and I quickly fell asleep, exhausted (in the best of ways!) after the hours on my feet.

The following morn, just about 24 hours after my arrival, I boarded a train back to Venice for a final day in the pretty city.

‘Tis all, friends! I hope you heart my photos.

xoxo,

Abby
