a little trip to Portugal…

Hi-Hi, Everyone!

I haven’t been updating this little space as frequently as I’d prefer to be lately, but fortunately I have a wonderful, totally legitimate excuse for my recent absence… this past weekend my dad came to visit and we took a mini-trip to Porto, Portugal together! If you’ve been following Lace & Lilacs for a decent length of time perhaps you’ll recall the special tradition my dad and I have for my birthday each year: essentially, he comes to Paris and we travel together over the weekend to celebrate my birthday. Of course, he can’t justify coming all the way to Europe for just a couple days of vacation (because budgets are a thing), so he renders  the trip productive by organizing meetings with clients in order to profit from the time he spends on this side of the ocean. This year, however, it wasn’t logistically possible for him to come for my actual birthday, which falls on Saturday the 25th, but rather than abandon our now three-year-old tradition (In 2015 we travelled to Amsterdam, the Hague, and Bruges, in 2016, Berlin), he was able to get away a bit earlier in the month and arrived in Paris the afternoon of November 9th. The following evening we boarded a flight to Porto… a destination selected above all for its warm winter weather (which, by the way, did not disappoint).

Saturday, our only full day in the city, was spent wandering about, chatting, picture-taking, and enjoying the sunshine… such a nice change from dreary, wintry Paris (Paris is always beautiful of course, but damn, it’s cold right now, guys). We started our day in Porto’s historic Ribeira neighborhood, and later made our way across the Dom Luís I bridge to explore the part of the city which boasts numerous renowned wine cellars… Porto is known predominantly for its port, after all.

Our departing flight was Sunday afternoon around 4pm, so we awoke quite early in order to take advantage of our final few hours in Portugal. While aimlessly meandering about we stumbled upon Cockburn’s porthouse and decided to enter for a tour and (for my dad, as I don’t drink… yes, I know I legally can here… no, I’m not going to start when I turn 21…) a wine-tasting. It was super-duper cool. And then… several short hours later… we were back in Paris. Sigh.

And there you have it… ’tis all for this post! I hope you heart my photographs, and I’ll be returning soon to share some disposable camera snapshots from this weekend.

xoxo,

Abby

xoxo,

Abby
